"Elastic thinking"
Speaker
STEFANO PUJATTI
Founder ElasticoFarm, Italy
Case Studies: Le Batiment Descendant l’Escalier; House of Cards; Flowing Water House
Main ideas: "Le Batiment Descendant l'Escalier" is a project that does not compromise with the mediocrity of the surrounding urban environment in which it is situated. Emerging as an object out of scale and interpreting the need to add quality to the place, it stands out in the built fabric as a catalytic principle to assert a new and dynamic urban centrality. Similarly, in the "Flowing Water House," the concept of the house-gallery materializes, where the residential and artistic dimensions interpenetrate. Art pervades the space, which in turn serves as an exhibition and meeting place for artists, critics, and enthusiasts of the subject matter. Finally, the project of the "Houses of Cards" better describes and elucidates the extensive process of research, design, and experimentation on materials and technologies that the studio undertakes in its projects. In this case, the two residences are united by the structural solution, developed around a play of overlaps and interlocking of large slabs in granite and prefabricated colored concrete.

Furthermore, the lecture will highlight the innovative design techniques that enable buildings to adapt over time, responding dynamically to their environmental and social settings. Through this exploration, the lecture aims to illuminate the paths through which architecture can achieve a harmonious balance between innovation, functionality, and environmental stewardship, contributing to the discourse on creating architecture that is both responsive and responsible.

Main ideas: These projects serve as prime examples of innovative idea generation and design, aimed at crafting a distinctive identity for the urban and architectural landscape. Our objective is twofold: to enhance the quality of life and sustainability of the buildings while seamlessly integrating them into the surrounding context. Moreover, with our design philosophy utilizing clean geometric shapes and a predominantly white color palette, we establish a sense of unity between the buildings and their environment. This design ethos extends to our material selection, prioritizing durability and longevity to ensure the lasting impact of these projects.
"Drawing from Context"
Speaker
DAVIDE MACULLO
Founder Davide Macullo Architects Studio, Switzerland
Case Studies: Urban developments in Albania, The Rossa Project, a territorial project in the Val Calanca, Switzerland
Main ideas: The presentation showcases projects of very different scales, typologies, climates & culture; how the fundamental approach stems from the same desire to make man feel as he is in the centre of his world; that the philosophy of caring for the psychology of man and making ensures people feel at ease in his space is central to architecture, whatever the scale or typology.
"NASC Singapore. A Beautiful Simplicity"
Keynote Speaker
MAURIZIO MEOSSI
Associate Director ZAHA HADID Architects, UK
Case Studies: New Science Center at Jurong Garden, Singapore
Main ideas: Informed by the sequence of logical inter-relationships that are the foundations of science teaching, the New Science Centre’s design establishes a network of five interlocking rectilinear volumes housing a variety of exhibition galleries, interactive labs and event spaces in addition to the restaurant, café, shops, administrative offices, archives and service areas. Each of the five interconnecting volumes has been precisely orientated to enhance the relationships between the centre’s interior and exterior spaces while also preserving the existing natural woodlands along the lakeshore. In line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the centre incorporates sustainable design principles and energy performance strategies to reduce net carbon emissions. Designed to BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification, the centre’s form creates outdoor spaces shaded from the sun yet exposed to the prevailing Southwest and North East Monsoon winds. Natural ventilation and controlled daylight will reduce energy usage while enhancing visitors’ experience and wellbeing. Photovoltaic panels and insulating roof gardens contribute towards renewable energy goals. High efficiency space conditioning with hybrid cooling together with an intelligent building management system will reduce energy consumption by over 40% while holistic water management and landscaping will conserve and restore native plant communities.
